Jemima Dan'auta on the Goodness of God

Ojonugwa: I'm still in awe at the dimension of God which a young successful attorney had experienced in the 1870s where he could still proclaim God's goodness and find comfort in Him after the tragedy that befell him.
Horatio spafford was a successful attorney and estate investor who lost a fortune on the great Chicago fire of 1871, around same time, he also lost his four year old son to scarlet fever.
Thinking a vacation will do the family some good, he sends his wife and four daughters on a ship to England, planning to join in later, but here's what happens, the ship sunk after a terrible collision while trying to cross the Atlantic ocean, with over 200 lives lost including all four daughters of the spafford's.
His wife, being the family only survivor, sends him a telegram which reads, "saved alone, what shall o do"

Horatio sets sail immediately for England, being informed by the captain on reaching the spot of the shipwreck, thinking about his girls, words of comfort filled his heart and mind, those words penned down gives the "It is well" hymn we now sing today

"Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say it is well with my soul"

So I'm wondering, if it were you or myself, would we have done things differently, maybe we'll be quick to ask God the "why me" question or we probably would even course God so we can die?

Let's sail with my beloved friend and sister Dan-auta Favour Jemima and she has written to us on the goodness of God...👇

"GOD IS GOOD"
We're always saying God is good but most times the "good" there is an adjective. God's goodness is more than that.
Most of the adjectives we use to qualify God are actually who he is.
i.e God doesn't just love(acts), he is Love(nature)
God doesn't just do good things(acts), he is Good(nature).
[having this understanding helps your believe in his Love for you and goodness even when it seems things are not going the way you planned]

When I think of the goodness of God, what immediately comes to my mind is this New covenant that God gave us.

Hebrews chapter 10 talked about the Old covenant being a faint shadow of what was God's original intention for us, his children. His intention was that we experience his Goodness to the fullness and nothing in between.
*Hebrews 10:1 -The old system of living under the law presented us with only a faint shadow, a crude outline of the reality of the wonderful blessings to come.*

God sent Jesus so that man would experience the wonderful blessings that was his original intention for us which could not be accomplished under the old system of Law.

I'll like to explain this with a bit of detail. The first four verses of Hebrews chapter 10 talks about what was not God's intention for us.
There was a problem with the law which necessitated the coming of Jesus (for if the Old covenant was God's original intention, there would have been no need to send a saviour to the world)
The highlights in the first 4 verses of Hebrews chapter 10 show that:
1. The old covenant was only a faint shadow of what was to come
2. There were steady streams of sacrifice that could never make our hearts perfect before God.
3.Animal sacrifices could not eliminate sin once and for all
4. The worshippers because of this continual sacrifice were constantly reminded of their sins
5. The blood of animals could not take away guilt.

All of these were some of the reasons why Jesus had to come and he so graciously did so.
He came and took care of every single problem of the law, he came with Grace.
All the above listed was taken care of by Jesus Christ.
I think of the fact that when he came, he took our guilt and shame and gave us beauty for ashes.
He satisfied God's wrath on that cross and so now God can never be angry with us again. Because he now sees us through Jesus (as he is, so am I)

Let me explain what happened on that cross in simple terms.

Think about all the wrongs you've ever committed, the one you may even be struggling with now, think about the ones believers around you have committed, now add sickness and disease to that, add poverty to that, add guilt and all the bad things you can think of.

Now think again about how Jesus lived a perfectly righteous life here on earth, how he never displeased God in his words and actions.

Basically, we had a nature of sin and unrighteousness and Jesus' nature was Righteousness

On that cross was the beautiful exchange. He not only took on all our sins,he actually became sin and took all the punishment that we were supposed to receive.
*"2 Corinthians 5:21- For God made the only one who did not know sin to become sin for us, so that we who did not know righteousness might become the righteousness of God through our union with him"*

He did not just become sin, but he then transferred his Righteousness to us so that now in God's eyes, we are seen as Righteous, Complete, Holy and Flawless(Collosians 1: 22). And we access this righteousness only by Faith, only and simply by Faith.(Roms 5:1)
Now think about this and tell me how I'm ever to doubt Gods goodness?

When you realize that Goodness is God's nature, you'll be convinced that God is always good 🙌 because he cannot go outside of his nature.
Believe in the goodness of God towards you and decide to experience it everyday of your life.
God is good!!!

I'll end with this, *Psalm 23:6 So why would I fear the future? For your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life...*

Jesus coming to die for us was his goodness pursuing us, Jesus saying that we get this ZOE (Eternal life) only by believing is his goodness pursuing us. And it is still his goodness that leads men to repentance (Roms 2:4)
I'll just like to say that it's important that you accept this goodness, this Love (i.e if you haven't already)
*God is good!!*

Ojonugwa: Are you blessed by this, cause I definitely am, God is good because it is His nature, and the beautiful thing is his goodness is not determined by what we can or cannot do ( hei this God🙌).... He is good when we feel like it, He is still good when we don't feel it. Remember, all things work together for our good 💪
