Horatio spafford was a successful attorney and estate investor who lost a fortune on the great Chicago fire of 1871, around same time, he also lost his four year old son to scarlet fever. Thinking a vacation will do the family some good, he sends his wife and four daughters on a ship to England, planning to join in later, but here's what happens, the ship sunk after a terrible collision while trying to cross the Atlantic ocean, with over 200 lives lost including all four daughters of the spafford's.
